Summer Butterflies

Goeie
(Frisian, a Northern Netherland language,
informal for 'Hello")

'Butterfly Forest Fairy' Collage Art Doll by inkspired

I am celebrating the last of the summer butterflies today!
I love to see the first butterflies of the spring and summer.
I look for them all summer long.
They are much fewer now.
I would love to go to their 'winter' resting place.
How beautiful it would be!

freedom,
and a little flower."

And what's a butterfly? At best,
He's but a caterpillar, at rest.

Really.
Some day I WILL become the blogging master!

"Purple Fairy"
altered paper doll by inkspired

My altered paper doll, shown above, is a very fun way to recycle
gardening/flower catalogs,
and old paper dolls that might have flaws, or tears,
or are just ready to become something else.
I actually scanned and printed my paperdoll
in case I need the original for another project!

I then took a few flower catalogs,
and snipped out all the pieces of purple flowers that I could find.
I arranged and re-arranged, and fussed
until I liked what I had.
Then I took my trusty Aleene's Tacky glue,
dabbed it on the snipped paper, and glued them to the  paperdoll base.
To finish, I traced around the finished paper doll onto purple paper.
I cut out the silhouette and glued it to the back of the paper doll.
Voila!

It's about time for me to leave for my dentist's appointment.
I love the way my teeth feel after a cleaning!

Butterflies

konnichi wa
(kon-nee-chee-wa)

Japanese for hello, daytime

Today is a good butterfly day.
Recently I have been noticing just a few, drifting around.

Let's have some fun with our colored pencils:

a butterfly mandala

a fun butterfly doodle

Here are two butterflies to cut out and use as masks:

Carefully cut out eye holes.
Use a paper hole punch to punch small holes on either side.
You can see where easily on the first butterfly.
Knot an elastic cord (found in the sewing dept.) and thread through the holes, starting from the top, Left side. End on the top, Right side.
Adjust to fit. Knot cord, and cut off extra.

For extra bling, you can knot your cord, leaving enough cord to string on a few beads. The last bead strung, fill the bead hole with some glue, and thread onto elastic cord. Let dry. This should give you some pretty beaded dangles on each side of the mask.

there'd be no butterflies."

Here is a lovely beaded butterfly pattern:

"But these are flowers that fly and all but sing:
And how from having ridden out desire
They lie closed over in the wind and cling
Where wheels have freshly sliced the April mire."

- Robert Frost, from "Blue-Butterfly Day"

Let's have some fun iris folding.
If you have forgotten how, or are new to this paper craft,

Next up:
a couple of scherensnitte patterns

the top one has the butterfly, the bottom one a pretty roses pattern

This one can be a wonderful greeting card.
It is from this out of print book:

This next one is more to give you an idea rather than to actually copy it.
It is in traditional Papel Picado style.

May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun

And find your shoulder to light on,
