Peace, fall fashion and candy wrapper tutorial

Peace

The English word 'peace' is spoken in many countries.
Here are a few:

United States of America
United Kingdom
Ireland
Ukraine
Trinidad & Tobago
Sweden
Scotland
Romania
Portugal
Barbados
Canada
Hong Kong
Jersey
Malta

I find this time of year to be very calming and contemplative.
Today is is cloudy skies, with a light breeze.
Our high temp is to be 54' (degrees F.)

I'm listening to 'Golden Autumn 2' solo piano recordings, 2001
by Fariborz Lachini
Lovely!

This is a picture I took of the aspens turning gold with the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop.
This was taken from the 2007 season.

My thoughts turn to changing seasons, the colors of fall, and autumn activities.

Here is a blog from one of my favorite bloggers -
turkeyfeathers
You can get to her blog from the addy to the right of my blog.
Here is one with beautiful pumpkins:

OH MY GOSH IS THE INTERNET SLOW TODAY!!!
I'm trying something new -
I write what I want to say in a Word doc,
and then I copy and paste to the blog. It speeds things up a little.

so slow...it's slower than toothpaste on a frigid morning
outside in the shack...

On to more important things….
Like….
Back to school fashions!!
I thought it would be fun to find some back to school fashions.
Of course, I have to include Liana's fantastic paper doll costumes:

Here is another doll that will fit these costumes too:

Isn't Liana just fabulous?

Oh! And here are some fashions for the guys:

Well, maybe only if you are in the Lollipop Gang!

These little fellows sure could use some fashion advice...

Fancy is as Fancy does…

- an old American saying

Okay, I'm giving up on doing a pretty blog. It takes too long to try and change the font, or the size or the color!

This is what I feel like when the internet/blog/whatever is so slow:

That's a raspberry with the tongue, and claws out to scratch somebody!!

Oh, and a big GRRRRRR.....

Okay, happier now that I've been open with my feelings...

Back to fashion!!!
Here is a great example of recycling Starburst (candy) wrappers into fashion:

You can find her tutorial here:

Feeling more adventurous?
Here are some samples from www.recyclerunway.com

Keep in mind, this is ALL PAPER!

Check it out! There's more!
Here's another called
Junk Mail Fan Dress, by Nancy Judd:

I'm thinking fall dances....proms....homecomings....

Isn't imagination a wonderful thing!

Here is an embroidery pattern to get started on.
You could put this on the corner of place mats,
and just do part of the pine cone and branch for napkins.
Wouldn't this look great on a sweatshirt?
Or a denim shirt?
Why not practice on the bottom of a pair of jeans?!

'Bluejay'
That's the only credit I have for this pattern. Is it perhaps from turkeyfeathers?
If you know, let me know so I can give proper credit.

Well, I have several things to get caught up on; I have been down almost a week with a severe flare-up of fibromyalgia.
Ick.
OUCH!
sigh.

I am now listening to:  'Adoration' solo piano album, c. 2007 by David Nevue.
Another great listen!

Let's close with this charming little vintage clip Dutch boy:

I'm sorry, I do not know the source of this, other than it is vintage,
which should make it public domain.
I think.

Tuesday Meanderings

Sang Nian Fai Lok

It feels great to be back with my blog!
Had some rough, kinda' icky weeks, but today is a new day!
I'm still fighting a cold or something.
Ick.
BUT
that's the nice thing about the internet -
none of you can catch what I have!
Ain't technology wunnerful?

St. James Parish, Gramercy, Louisiana, USA
Mississippi River tradition

This is a favorite quote of mine:

'Are you willing to forget what you have done for other people,
and to remember what other people have done for you ...
To remember the weakness and loneliness
of people who are growing old ...
Are you willing to believe
that love is the strongest thing in the world ...
stronger than hate,
stronger than evil,
stronger than death...
Then you can keep Christmas!
But you can never keep it alone.'

- Henry van Dyke

a 1986 Greeting Card 'The Christmas Forest'

I checked out Turkeyfeathers blog, and found a super freebie.
She is offering - for free - 12 embroidery patterns of 12 different nursery rhymes.
Go to her blog (listed on the right, under 'My Blogs') and look at the top right side. There is a button that says 'embroidery transfers', and then 'free'. Click on that, and up comes several choices!
The Nursery Rhymes are just one of those offered.
Be sure and check out her WONDERFUL State flowers embroidery patterns too!

Here is a sentiment that is good all year 'round,
done in papercutting (scherensnitte) style!

Following is the Christmas card base that I created this year.
It is made with all recycled paper junk mail,
and 2 punches (the circle, and the ivy trio leaf).
I then copied it and printed it out on white cardstock.
This was so it would fit on a card front!
After trimming, I mounted it onto either a medium red
(the same color of the circles),
bright green or dark green card,
with strips of contrasting cardstock for accents.
I hope you like it!

Then on the inside I had clipped various words from junk mail,
such as 'The Messiah', or 'Merry Christmas', or 'Jesus',
or words that were similar. I had a limited amount of junk mail
that uses those kind of words !
(Thank goodness for flyers from The Family Christian Bookstore!!!)
Each envelope had two more word clips.
I used words like 'Good News', or things like that.

Now that I write about it,
I suppose I should have taken pix of the finished cards!
If I find any half done cards, I will take pix and post later.

I loved this photo that I found, by Olivia Harris:

Larry the Downing Street cat on Downtown Street
central London, Britain

There was an old publication named "wee wisdom" in the 1950's.
The cover art is super great vintage.
Here is one:

from a vintage wee wisdom magazine

I have created some new Collage Art Dolls,
with Evening Style as a semi-theme.

'Chained Night Life' original Collage Art Doll
(Lesson learned -
don't seal the Collage Art Doll in plastic before you photograph it!)

'Lipstick Dress' original Collage Art Doll

Note that her accessories are from a 'scan your phone' symbol thingy.
I also really like the mis-matched eyes!
and of course....the lipstick dress!

'Night at the Opera' Collage Art Doll by inkspired

I saw that standing candelabra in an ad,
and knew I had to do something special with it!
I'm trying to remember - I think her dress is from a Lipstick ad...

Next up is a hilarious you tube clip my son Peter shared with us:

Who knew?

See you soon!

I thought today I would just share a few things that I liked!
So charming and vintage!

Little Miss Muffet, Tuffets and fun Spiders!

Hey y'all!

Little Miss Muffet detail of painting
by Scott Gustafson

Little Miss Muffet

Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet,
Eating her curds and whey.
Along came a spider,
Who sat down beside her,
And frightened Miss Muffet away.

Poor little Miss Muffet!

Let's make some cute spiders,
so next time she won't be so frightened!

Spider Pretzels
These arachnid treats are easy to make and they look positively lifelike
crawling across your child's snack plate.
For each:
2 round crackers
(like Ritz)
2 teaspoons smooth peanut butter
8 small pretzel sticks
2 raisins

With the peanut butter, make a cracker sandwich.
Insert eight pretzel "legs" into the filling.
Place them 4 on one side, and 4 on the opposite side.
With a dab of peanut butter, set two raisin "eyes" on top, front.
Makes 1.

I do have a photo, but I can't figure out how to get it to the blog. Sorry.
Use your imagination, and I'm sure they will be cute!

So just what is a "tuffet"?

Well, it can be a little stool to sit on,
or it can be a patch of grass, like a tuft of grass.

In most of the pictures/illustrations/paintings that I have found,
Miss Muffet is sitting on a low stool.

Here is a great Spider Iris Folding pattern, courtesy of Chona:

If you can't quite remember how to do Iris Folding,
type into my search box "iris folding" and a nice tutorial should pop up,
along with several more patterns. These will be in different blogs.

There is a charming coloring page on Mary Engelbreit's web site:

She has several super coloring pages!

I have a simple scherensnitte (papercutting) pattern for you next.
The pattern page has Little Miss Muffet on the top,
and Little Jack Horner on the bottom.
2 for 1!

So what are curds and whey?
Sounds icky....
Whey is the watery part of milk that separates from the curds
when making cheese.
I kind of think of it as watery cottage cheese!

Miss Muffet embroidery pattern from TurkeyFeathers
Here is another fun 'Spider' to make!
Spider Pops

You will need:
black pipe cleaners (chenille stems)
Tootsie Pops (lollipops)
googly eyes
glue

1. Hold four pipe cleaners, center them at the base of the pop and
wrap them around the stick once so there are 4 legs on each
         side of the round pop.
2. Bend the pipe cleaner ends of each leg to form eight feet. Just
         about 1/2" or so.
3. Glue on googly eyes to the bulb of the pop, in front.
4. Spiders can crawl around anywhere you want them to, on their
          pipe cleaner legs!

Wouldn't these make cute Halloween party favors or hand-outs?

Note Miss Muffet's MUSHROOM tuffet!

He creates interesting digital photography art.
I have had fun with Little Miss Muffet today.
This is the blog that I had done in July,
only to have blogspot eat it.
Grrr....
But I'm not mad today, so we had some tuffet-fun!
