Batman Day coming up!

 Welcome!

(Revised 5/30/25)

Unknown, Pinterest

There’s still time to get ready!

May 1 is the Official Batman Day!!!

I have collected a few quick and easy ways for you to celebrate this

Important Holiday Occasion!

With no time to waste, let’s put on our Batman Thinking Caps and get going!

Icedragon529, Deviant Art

The holiday does not state which Batman we are honoring, so we probably should just do all of them.

Here’s what my son calls

The Blue Batman

LIFE, March 1966

BB, as I fondly call him, gave us wonderful new words to use in work situations, as needed.

(You should be prepared with extra samples as your co-workers will most likely want some for their work-day usage  also!)

Delving into the rich history of the American Language, BB has given us choice words to use for everyday encounters - such as:

Red Bubble

No need to resort to childish cuss words - you can Batmantize them!

I have found this…

…to be oddly satisfying.

And versatile!

Sometimes we get flustered while trying to remember just all the special words we want to use in a situation.

Can-O-Batman fixes the problem.

All you need do is grab 1 or more sticks and insert the chosen word(s) into your sentences. It’s even okay if you repeat a word a few times. This can add to the authentic BB Effect.

To make your own get some wood skewers (your local grocery store probably carries them), some fun foam and some good glue. I like Aleene’s Tacky Glue in the gold bottle. Hot glue gun might work if you are adventurous.

Trace and cut out letters. Refer to the above photos. Layer letters onto spiky-cut  fun foam backgrounds, sandwiching the skewer between 2 layers. Cover a large, clean can with fun foam. Add a Batman symbol to the side of the can. Place florist styrofoam or something similar in the bottom of the can. Glue in place. Stick skewers in a pleasing arrangement.

Pinterest
Later you can recycle the can to hold pens and pencils.

The ‘Gray Batman’ comes next.
In fact, he is a lot like the Blue Batman.
Let’s call him GB.

How about we paint an easy to do Batman Clay Pot?

Don’t want to get that fancy? Then just paint his head!

You will probably need a clip board or file folder at some point May 1. (After making this one, be sure you need one!)
Here’s a fun idea-

Folder, construction paper or cardstock, Batman logo, glue. Optional: clear Contact paper to cover all as a protector.
Look at the photo again. It’s made up of circles, triangles, rectangles and ovals!
Here is a symbol you can use for any of these projects, just resize to your item:
I found many Batman logos on Pinterest.

Are you in the mood for Batman Day yet? I sure am!

Let’s give a brief nod to
Batman’s Essential Sidekick-
Robin.

(Please please add an apostrophe in ‘we’re’. Can’t believe all the grammatical snafoos out there now…)

There have been so many versions of Batman you can celebrate whatever vision you choose - they are all Batman!

Unknown, Pinterest

Lastly, we have ‘The Dark Knight’ or
The Black Batman.
I’ll call him DK for short.

Christian Bale as Batman

I always thought it humorous that directors seemed to think that in the movies, the Batman with the funny lips would be unrecognizable if they put a mask on him.
Seriously?

Batman Foreve

Let’s make a cool corner bookmark that you can adapt to so many more ideas-
Here is the basic fold:

Marigami.com

Now make a Batman symbol to be glued onto your corner bookmark-

Drawingtutorials101.com

…and the finished bookmark-

Now fold and cut 5 more for your friends!

Let’s end today’s blog with some Bat Treats. After all, it is for a
‘Special Batman Holiday-

Dip marshmallows in some melted chocolate wafers (our craft stores carry these in the party/Wilton aisle) Place on a wire rack to let excess chocolate drip off. Set in refrigerator or freezer until firm.
Cut strips of crepe paper, with jagged ends to look like bat wings. Place marshmallow in center and wrap and tie both ends. Refer to the photo.
Jolly Rancher hard candies would also fit well for inside the bat.

Keep these in a bowl close-by to give to whomever happens to be walking by.

That’s it for today.

‘Til next time,

An Omelette

 Welcome

Found on Pinterest

🥚🫑🥚🧅🥚🧈🥚

Let’s make an omelette today.

This is a 5 ingredient omelette

I made for breakfast yesterday.

(Plus a few herbs/spices)

Let’s get started!

🍽 🍽 🍽

Read through all directions first!

Really!

You will need:

1/3 Cup roughly chopped red bell pepper

1/2 stick butter

1 Cup roughly chopped mushrooms

6 Large eggs

4 Tablespoons milk or cream

Seasonings

I used fresh ground salt & pepper,

Dried minced onion (had no fresh!)

Dried Anaheim chilies, crushed

Onion powder

Let’s get started!

Prep work:

Crack 6 eggs into bowl.

Add 4 Tablespoons milk.

Whisk together, set aside.

Get your skillet hot, add 1/4 stick butter to melt.

Add in mushrooms and stir until cooked

(About 1-2 minutes)

Remove mushrooms with slotted spoon.
Set aside.

Leave as much butter in the skillet as you can.

Place skillet back on heated burner.

Add to hot skillet chopped red bell pepper.

In melted butter, stir until peppers are crisp-soft.

Remove from skillet with slotted spoon,

leaving as much butter in pan as you can.

Add to mushrooms, set aside.

🥣 🐄 🥣

Add bowl of whisked eggs and milk to hot skillet.

As eggs start to set,

push an edge to the middle and tip pan

so eggs will run onto hot skillet surface.

Continue gently pushing semi-cooked eggs towards middle, tipping pan so runny eggs flow onto hot skillet surface.

When eggs stop running freely,

Turn heat down.

Add your sautéed mushrooms and red peppers,

leaving a 1 1/2” border with just eggs.

Cover skillet for 30 seconds on low-medium heat.

Watch! You might need less time!

Add salt and pepper, sparingly.

🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓

Now is the time to make your omelette Your specialty!

Choose your herbs and spices and sprinkle on egg mixture

Sparingly!

You can always add more later.

Check your egg mixture now.

I like my eggs well done, so if there are runny parts

I place a lid over the skillet

and keep the heat at med to med-low for no longer than

less than 1 minute (think 30-45 seconds).

🧈🥚🧀🥚🧈

Now comes the tricky part.

With as large a spatula as you can find,

Quickly

flip half of the omelette over, on top of the first half.

Don’t worry if it breaks apart, just flip it until

half rests on top of the other half.

This really does take a bit of practice!

Slide omelette out of skillet and onto plate.

Voila!

You’ve done it!

A few beginner tips:

These are just a few things that if you are a beginner cook you may not have heard of, or known.

1. Cooking is flexible. You will make mistakes, but most of them you can still eat! Relax, have fun!

2. When breaking eggs and a piece of shell falls into the bowl, use a large piece of shell to scoop it out.

Much easier!

3. When whisking eggs, slightly tip the bowl to one side. You will see others holding the bowl while whisking; this is why. Makes the job faster, easier.

4. Eggs cook better when room temperature.

5. Before you turn on the heat, set all ingredients out and to the side. This includes all bowls, spoons, etc.

6. If your omelette just looks too messy on the plate, add a topping! Think ‘blanket to cover it’.

Easy fixes can be green chili sauce; melted cheese

with a dollop of salsa or a couple of mushroom slices;

small  amount of sour cream, spread lightly

with a red bell pepper twist on top...

Remember, you are learning!

7. I use salted butter, so I do not add much additional salt. Depend more on the flavors of herbs like basil, lemon pepper, onion powder or dried minced.

You can taste more flavors if they are not covered up by salt.

8. Fresh herbs have the best flavor. Dried herbs lose their potency and become weaker in flavor. Keep this in mind! You will need different amounts depending on the freshness of herbs & spices.

(Was reminded of that the hard way with oregano and spaghetti sauce!)

I hope you try out omelettes if you have never cooked one before.

There are all sorts of tasty ingredient exchanges to make each one unique and yummy.

Comfort Food

Welcome!
All kaleidoscopes by inkspired and KaleidoCam

I recently made my favorite sour cream coffee cake.
I had not made that for at least 10 years!
The taste was so familiar and comforting.
I have been using that recipe for almost 40 years,
from a cookbook given to me as a wedding gift.

Perhaps you would like to try it!

Sour Cream Coffee Cake
1 Cup butter or margarine
2 Cups sugar
2 eggs
1 Cup sour cream
2 Cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 tsp. Baking powder
1 Cup chopped pecans
4 Tablespoons brown sugar
1 tsp. Cinnamon

Grease and flour Bundt Pan, or angel cake pan.
Cream butter and sugar well.
Add eggs 1 at a time, beat well after each addition.
Fold in sour cream and vanilla.
Mix chopped pecans, brown sugar & cinnamon.
Set aside.
Mix remaining dry ingredients. Add to creamed mix.

Pour (glop) 1/2 of mixture into prepared pan.
Sprinkle 3/4 of pecan/brown sugar/cinnamon on top of mix in pan. Do not let mix touch sides of pan.
Top with other half of batter;
sprinkle remaining nut mixture on top.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes.
(I usually bake 50 minutes)
Cool cake 10 minutes.
Loosen all sides with spatula,
turn coffee cake out of pan.

Enjoy!

I love this simple idea to ‘Mouse-ify ’ your pizza!

Here is a little baking tip:

After unwrapping a stick of butter,
Use the paper wrapping to grease your pan.
and
Spoon in flour to your measuring cup.
Do not shake it or tamp it down -
unless the recipe specifically says to.
Then use the flat handle of your spoon to push off
any excess flour, making it even with
the measuring cup’s top.

I thought this was a really cute idea, and so easy!
I bet Oreo cookies would work also,
or any chocolate type sandwich cookie.

Another quick and easy decorating idea
to add some Disney Fun to your cupcakes.

A little thrifty hint I do -
After any holiday is a great time to purchase
paper muffin cups
and candles.
After Christmas the stores’ candles sell
for as much as 80% off.
I find plain white, red, green, gold candles at great prices.
And
Many of the seasonally decorative paper cupcake liners
can be used at other times of the year.
My family doesn’t seem to notice
if they get red hearts in May on their muffin papers!

That’s it for today!
Let me know how you like the sour cream coffee cake!
