More last minute Halloween fun

Welcome!

darkness purrs

as midnight sighs.’

Here are a few things that might make life a little more fun, a little less sugary and a little less stressful.

I thought these deviled eggs were a clever way to add some Halloween fun to your table.

She also gives some directions,
although I think the photo is self-explanatory.

Here’s another cute deviled egg idea:

C. Delicious as it Looks

All you need are black olives and your fave deviled egg recipe!

Next I have a quick and easy craft to do
that will light up your Halloween mood!
(Snark, snark.)

GHOSTLY LIGHTS

Courtesy Disney Family

Things you will need:

Clean milk jug, with cap

White paint
Black paint
Or
black permanent marker

Scissors/Xacto knife

Battery operated light string
Or
Flameless votive candle
Or
Longish light string

Version 1

Photo by One Good Thing by Jillee

Using a white-ish milk jug, sketch out your face.
Fill in features with a black permanent pen
(Such as a Sharpie)

Using the Xacto knife, carefully cut at the bottom,
back side a square cut on 3 sides only
to make a ‘door’.

Photo credit: Jennifer- Low Carb Inspirations Blog

Place your string of lights and battery holder inside
Secure ‘door’ closed with a piece of strong tape.
(I like packing tape)
You want it convenient to open and close
to turn your lights on and off.

Option:

If your ghost is used in an inside or protected area,
You can use one longer string of lights, with the light cord going between ghosts (see photo above)

Version 2

Photo credit Third stop on the Right

This version uses flameless
individual votive candles.

You can cut your door a little differently shaped.
Check the size of your candle to determine what size your hole needs to be.
Remember, you will be removing it to turn off,
and placing back inside once lit,
so you want enough room to move around in.

Option:

Some of the versions show
you paint the milk jug white,
then paint the features
black with acrylic paints.

Personally, I think this is overkill.
I wanted to offer it as an option however
so you can make your own choice.

Here are a couple different versions you can make.
Use your imagination!

Comfort Food

Welcome!
All kaleidoscopes by inkspired and KaleidoCam

I recently made my favorite sour cream coffee cake.
I had not made that for at least 10 years!
The taste was so familiar and comforting.
I have been using that recipe for almost 40 years,
from a cookbook given to me as a wedding gift.

Perhaps you would like to try it!

Sour Cream Coffee Cake
1 Cup butter or margarine
2 Cups sugar
2 eggs
1 Cup sour cream
2 Cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 tsp. Baking powder
1 Cup chopped pecans
4 Tablespoons brown sugar
1 tsp. Cinnamon

Grease and flour Bundt Pan, or angel cake pan.
Cream butter and sugar well.
Add eggs 1 at a time, beat well after each addition.
Fold in sour cream and vanilla.
Mix chopped pecans, brown sugar & cinnamon.
Set aside.
Mix remaining dry ingredients. Add to creamed mix.

Pour (glop) 1/2 of mixture into prepared pan.
Sprinkle 3/4 of pecan/brown sugar/cinnamon on top of mix in pan. Do not let mix touch sides of pan.
Top with other half of batter;
sprinkle remaining nut mixture on top.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes.
(I usually bake 50 minutes)
Cool cake 10 minutes.
Loosen all sides with spatula,
turn coffee cake out of pan.

Enjoy!

I love this simple idea to ‘Mouse-ify ’ your pizza!

Here is a little baking tip:

After unwrapping a stick of butter,
Use the paper wrapping to grease your pan.
and
Spoon in flour to your measuring cup.
Do not shake it or tamp it down -
unless the recipe specifically says to.
Then use the flat handle of your spoon to push off
any excess flour, making it even with
the measuring cup’s top.

I thought this was a really cute idea, and so easy!
I bet Oreo cookies would work also,
or any chocolate type sandwich cookie.

Another quick and easy decorating idea
to add some Disney Fun to your cupcakes.

A little thrifty hint I do -
After any holiday is a great time to purchase
paper muffin cups
and candles.
After Christmas the stores’ candles sell
for as much as 80% off.
I find plain white, red, green, gold candles at great prices.
And
Many of the seasonally decorative paper cupcake liners
can be used at other times of the year.
My family doesn’t seem to notice
if they get red hearts in May on their muffin papers!

That’s it for today!
Let me know how you like the sour cream coffee cake!

dark chocolate may help sharpen the mind.
Why?
Researchers say that it's possible that flavanols (found in cocoa drinks)
may improve blood flow to the brain.

Going on dates usually include some sort of food.
A restaurant is a 'safe'  place to meet with someone you don't know well, and it is informal enough you don't have to feel pressured.
Here is a date with food involved,
Horror Stories:

“I had a first date with a recent divorcé at a lovely Italian restaurant on a Saturday night.
I proceeded to order eggplant Parmesan.
As soon as I said it, he started choking, even though he had nothing in his mouth.
Apparently, that was his ex’s favorite dish — and as I was about to find out,
he was still hung up on her.
I offered him water, the waiter whacked him on the back... but he wound up having a full-blown panic attack, so I called an ambulance.
Since I couldn’t ride in the ambulance because I wasn’t a relative, I had to meet him at the hospital, where doctors determined that he was still so upset
that he was committed to psychiatric care.
By the time his paperwork was processed, my date couldn’t remember my name.
Even so, he asked me to go to the store and buy him cigarettes, underwear, and deodorant. When I returned to the hospital, I suppose that was our second date,
because it was already Sunday... but it was also our last.”
