Antique Theaters Part II

Welcome!

All kaleidoscopes by inkspired and KaleidoCam

Let’s continue exploring antique paper theaters
popular in Queen Victoria’s Era.

Here is a nice diagram showing you how the layers work,
from a top view.

Remember, you want your scenery backgrounds
removable so they can be changed for different ones
to match the play.
Slots are your friend for that need!

The more slots for backdrops you have,
the greater depth and realism you will have.
You also will have more room for extra actors,
furniture, props, etc.

And what great actors/actresses there are!

You can also find soooo many copies of original

Hmmm...
Don’t want to go overboard with the theme,
but I sure do like paper dollhouses,
Paper dolls and paper ephemera.
This fits me perfectly!

Here are just a few more -

I found the above illustrations from Pinterest:

I hope you try out this vintage play time fun.
I would love to see your finished theaters!
You can leave a comment/photo for me,
the directions are at the bottom of this blog.
Nothing gets posted until I say ok,
so no need to worry if you just want me to see.

Truth - usually discovered before coffee or 10am,
whichever comes last -

Putting pants on can be difficult
when your brain is not yet awake.
It’s best to sit down when attempting.
When ignoring this truth,
the loud thuds and groans only irritate The Dog.
And you still won’t have your pants on.

Fantasy Fairytale Fun

Hello!

All kaleidoscopes by inkspired
and KaleidoCam

This one I used a Disney jigsaw puzzle as its’ base.
Recognize the fairytale?
It is a very old story told and re-told through the centuries, but not quite what Disney movie writers interpreted!

The ‘original’ Aladdin was Chinese,
not Persian!
After he marries the Princess
he continues with quite a few adventures
involving wicked magicians,
jealous loser Princes,
not just flying but really traveling to distant lands,
losing the magic lamp,
regaining the magic lamp,
Repeat!

Did you catch the Aladdin paper dolls
by Cory Jensen? They were in my Princess blog
from a few days ago.
Here are a few more Aladdin paper dolls
by Cory Jensen-

We shouldn’t forget Jafar either!

Here are a couple more-

All by Cory Jensen!

Now, this wasn’t supposed to be a blog about
Aladdin specifically,
but more about general fairytales!

Unfortunately
this blog has taken me days to finish!
Just one of those things,
with all of life’s little interruptions...

Now it is time to close,
and get myself more organized for my next blog!

Truth, usually experienced before 10 am,
Or before coffee -
Do not attempt starting laundry until later in the day,
or you risk finding it days later,
Wet,
Moldy,
Smelly,
still in the washing machine.

Just a little note:
Farsi is considered a 'Persian' language, and is spoken in
Iran
Iraq
Afghanistan
Pakistan
Azerbaijan
Of those 5 countries, I have readers from Iraq and Pakistan.
Thanks readers!

I thought I would share with you today a follow up to the previous 'Aladdin' blog.
There are many books, paintings and photos to have fun with!
I have many many song sheet covers (thank you Indiana University Music)
with just super vintage graphics!

Let's explore some of the costumes.
Sometimes it is hard to tell if the costume is authentic,
or fanciful.
or perhaps a mix of both?

vintage from 'famous fairy tales'

'Arabian Nights' c.1912 by Rene Bull

Here we have some fun 'posed' photographs.
I would think these are mostly in the 'fanciful' arena!
I have added in some actresses, some dancers and some gypsy costumes.
It seems that sometimes the Aladdin type costumes were intertwined with the gypsy ones and modified for dance numbers.

to finish - a magic lamp!

I have really enjoyed gathering these vintage graphics and photos for you about 'Aladdin'
and the fantasies that people have surrounded his story with.

I think I need to go and purchase a big silky scarf...
maybe a palm tree or two...
and of course, find my magic lamp!
