International vintage paper dolls

Welcome

All kaleidoscopes by inkspired and KaleidoCam

I would love to share with you today a few vintage paper dolls.

They all are one page dolls,

which means doll and costume(s) are on one page

instead of several.

The paper dolls featured represent countries where I have readers!

Let’s start with Japan -

The above doll is part of a series that were printed in

the Boston Sunday Globe, around 1909.

The artist is J.V. Sloan.

Thanks for your interest in my blogs, Japanese readers!

Next I have another Dolly Dingle international paper doll.

You can read more about Dolly in my past blog

“It’s a small world after all”

My readers from Italy have supported me

from my first blogs several years ago.

 Next up -

Switzerland!

Here are 2 paperdolls representing traditional
costumes from Germany -

A big hello to my Russian supporters:

I hope you have enjoyed this little trip
around the world with vintage paper dolls.

If you choose to print them for playtime,
glue them onto a piece of thin cardboard
(Think cereal boxes)
and cut out to increase their lives!

Another Dutch paper doll to add to the previous ones.

I love paper dolls,
and international costumes,
and vintage styles.
I’m so happy to share these with you!

‘Til next time,

Doors to open, doors to close

Welcome!
This is a 14th century door
in King’s Palace, Fez Medina, Morocco

I have always loved the artistry and workmanship put in to different doors. So much color, shape and pattern concentrated on an everyday object.

We open and close doors every day.

I like that quote!

Bali, Indonesia

DomQuartier Salzburg, Austria

Have you seen any unusual doors?
A door painted uniquely or
with fanciful decorations?

Look around!
You never know what beauty you might discover.

Old Town Funchal, Madeira, Portugal

Some doors are steeped in history,
such as this one -

This door can be found at
Penshurst Place Gardens, Kent, UK
Penshurst was built in 1341.
Two of Henry IV’s sons owned it,
and Henry VIII used it as a hunting lodge.
It became a part of Anne of Cleves’
divorce settlement.
Then it went to Henry VIII’s son, Edward VI.
Later, Henry VIII gave it to his loyal steward and tutor
Sir William Sidney in 1552.
It has remained in the Sidney family since.
Just think of who has walked through this door!

A temple door in Bangkok, Thailand

This Dogan door is from Koundou, Guina, Mali.
The Dogon language is oral,
so they often record their history in wood carvings.
This door tells about Dogon Cosmology
and the migration from ancestral lands
from the 12th - 15th centuries
to their current location,
Bandiagara Escarpment

Paris, France

Hotel Palais Salam
Taroudant, Italy

Ghent, Belgium

My last door to share today is found in
Wroclaw, Poland -

I hope you will share with us
a door or two that you
have found interesting.
Make a comment, and I will get back to you!

I'm sorry, but that's all I can do today.
My back has done a huge nasty to me, and I'm living on pain meds.
Ick.
So, no sitting at the computer and typing.
Hope your Fall Festival Plans are coming along just great!
I've tried to inspire you with some costume ideas above.

Home Quotes and Cottages

Paci

'Peace' in Sicilian, spoken in Italy

Andrea Del Verrocchio, an Italian Sculpturer

Well, I have been trying to write this blog for 3 days now.
Seriously, does anyone have any ideas?
The load time is incredibly slow.
We have run scans for cookies, trojans, etc.
Nada.

Oh well, let's see how much I can get in today!
I have sooooo many pictures of beautiful cottages,
and found a treasure trove of wonderful quotes!
Let's goooooo......!!!!

"Home is the nicest word there is."

- Laura Ingalls Wilder

Just a reminder, I have many photos that I have found no credit for.
If you know of photo credits, or names or places of these wonderful cottages,
please let me know.

"If I ever go looking
for my heart's desire again,
I won't look any further
than my own back yard.
Because if it isn't there,
I never really lost it to begin with."

- L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

'Fantasy Inn'

Let's cut out some wonderful Victorian homes!
Here are a few patterns from the discontinued books
by BackStreet Designs.

Notice that you can cut out individual houses, or cut them in a row
like the pattern shows.
As extra bonus, you get the wonderful stained glass pattern below them!

'Tree House'

'Whimsical Fairy House' found on etsy

"The same sun that rises over castles
and welcomes the day
Spills over buildings into the streets
where orphans play
And only You can see the good
 in broken things
You took my heart of stone,
and You made it home
And set this prisoner free."

- Bethany Dillon

Although today's blog is shorter than I usually do,
I hope you have enjoyed it!
Off to have lunch with Michael, he's taking the day off!
