A Fascinating World of Cultures!

Welcome!

Here is another WordPak creation I made.
How many different languages do you recognize?
They all say ‘Welcome’!

Kaleidoscope by inkspired

I love to learn about other cultures than my own.
I love to see their traditional costumes,
learn about the foods they like,
and listen to their music.

Boy from Ecuador

Paper dolls from the 1970’s

Combine that with my love of paper dolls
and you have...today’s blog!

costumes representing their countries.

I haven’t showcased any countries from
North America, or
Central America.
Australia and all the Island countries are waiting,
 along with most of Africa.
Oh! What a huge world we live in!

However,
they will come another day!

‘Til then,

I have had fun today making up a new treasury on etsy:

"travel around the world"

I'd like to share some of the items that I found for the new treasury:
Let's Go Somewhere 5x5 Quirky Illustration Print

Custom Handmade Cork Board Map
It all started with another seller adding one of my items to her treasury
"Tale as old as time"

http://www.etsy.com/treasury/ODg5MzAwN3wyMjgyNzQ5Mjc2/tale-as-old-as-time

She featured one of my recycled junk mail bottlecap magnets:

Browsing through this treasury, I found the shop:

From there, I found this item listing:

Wouldn't this fabric also make up a fab apron?
Use it to accent an apron made from coordinating solid colors.
You could make the pockets and trim from the World fabric.
Ooh, makes me want to go get out my sewing machine....

I hope you have enjoyed this little trip of
Travel Around the World

I need to go get ready to go out for dinner.
A friend of ours is having a fund raiser for her orchestra (she plays flute, one of my favorite instruments). If we eat at a specific restaurant, they will donate a portion of the profits to her orchestra. Her parents invited us out!
:0)

Cool.
Good food and good company too.

Peace to the Children of the World

Shanti

'Peace' in the Bengali language, spoken in Bangladesh

Timor, Bangladesh children in traditional clothing

Ah, another fun day spent with Google Images!
It started out with a photo gallery that I was wandering through,
and I saw this picture:

SouthWestern Ethiopian girl from the Turmi tribe

Salaom

'Peace' in the Ge'ez language, Ethiopia

(the 'o' has a slash thru it)

I thought 'Wow! that little girl is really pretty!'

'Wouldn't it be fun to look up photos of children (mostly) in traditional dress,
from countries that have checked out my blog?'

So that's what I have done.
You know me, I just LOVE other countries' traditions and costumes!

Amaithi

'Peace' in the Tamil language, spoken in Malaysia

Malaysian girl in traditional Muslim dress

Paz

'Peace' in Spanish, spoken in Costa Rica

Girl dressed for Guanacaste Day celebrated in Costa Rica

Asomdwoe

'Peace' in the Akan language spoken in Ghana

It doesn't matter where you are in the world,
everyone knows what a smile is!

Hoa Binh

or

Su Thai Binh

'Peace in Vietnamese

I found both of the above words listed on differing sites.
Anybody know if they are both correct?
Is one perhaps a dialect spoken in Vietnam?

Sin Ho, Vietnam- a Black Dzao hill tribe girl

Hetep

'Peace' in Egyptian

Anka Kay

or

Sonqo Tiaykuy

or

Qasikay or Aligu

'Peace' in the Quechua language, spoken in Peru

I found all of the above translations for the word 'Peace'.
Since I don't speak 'Quechuan' I thought I better put them all in!

Mother and daughter in traditional Peruvian costume

Trying to say 'peace' in 'Peruvian' turned out to be a challenge.
Their official song/motto is in Spanish.
Well, I have shared Spanish before, so I wanted a perhaps tribal language.
In Peru they also speak Mayan and Quechuan.
I thought Mayan would be cool, but I couldn't find any language translations.

:0(

If any of my Peruvian blog readers would care to illuminate me,
please do!!

Kev tiaj tus

Doi Pui village, Thailand children dressed in traditional Hmong costumes,

(bet he didn't want to sit by his sister)

I've had a wonderful time with you today.
I have more super cute pictures of children around the world,
some smiling,

I'll have to share with you later!
