Good for the world Friday

Peace

'Peace' (in English)
to all in Canada, the United States of America, Australia, New Zealand
 and Great Britain

c. 1917

I'm afraid I don't have much time today for my blog,
but I really wanted to share at least a few things.
Today is a special day.
A day when sin was conquered.
A day when we no longer have to try and live up to a perfect God,
but can be seen by God as perfect,
through the curtain of Jesus' blood.
Blood that He freely shed for you.
For me.
What a relief!
I don't have to do 'good works' or be a 'good person'
and then hope I have been 'good enough' to enter heaven.
With Jesus' sacrifice, freely given, and His death-
He carried my sins.
Your sins.
So that I may stand before the Perfect God, the Holiest of Holy
and say
yes!
I am your child!
I know I have sinned, and I know that You sent your Only Son to the earth,
just for me!
So that today when I stand in Your presence,
You know who I am
and You welcome me into Your home.
No worrying or hoping for me.
I know Who loves me, and exactly where I will be after I die on this earth.
Whew.
What a comfort.

So, today is a day of sorrow for what Jesus had to go through
and a day of rejoicing.
I like to focus on both.
and of course, Easter is the day of Rejoicing
when Jesus conquered not only our sins, but death as well!!
:0)

Here is a charming paper doll set from Germany:
I like this one because although some of their clothes are patched and worn,
these kids still celebrate with flowers and baskets of gifts.

Here is a coloring page that reminds us of Jesus death:

produced with permission from Gospel Light

This next painting is by Giotto, entitled "Lamentation", circa 1308.
I like it because it shows something that we, in all our focus on ourselves,
forget sometimes.
That the angels cried at Jesus persecution and death.
They cried because God prevented them from intervening.

Giotto's 'Lamentation', c. 1308

Caravaggio's 'La Deposizio ne di Criso'

Andrea Solario's 'Lamentation', c. 1505 - 1507

You know, that's really the symbolism of the Easter egg -
the egg is broken open and there is new life
a baby chick or a baby duckling
new, fresh, alive and ready to live!
That is us -
covered up with shell (sin) and in the dark.
Jesus breaks open our shell
and we are there!
New, fresh, alive and ready to live for God!

Well, perhaps I have given you a few things to think about.
Have a blessed Friday,
with anticipation for the Resurrection Day!

A Bright Easter

Hallelujah!
c. 1901

He is not here!
"....and here's the rest of the story...."

When some of Jesus' followers went to the tomb as soon as they could  to clean the body and annoint it and do the final preparations for burial,
(according to Jewish laws and traditions)
the tomb's huge rock across the front was rolled to the side!
They needed to do these burial rituals, but the tomb was empty!
A bright shining angel was at the entrance, and announced:
"He is not here!"
Of course, being humans, they had to make sure themselves....
and there in the tomb were the hastily scrambled together clothing that they had wrapped Jesus' body in,
only there was no body.

This is Easter.
artist: Danny Richard Hahlbohm

Death could not hold Jesus.
He rose from the dead,
and with His new Resurrected body,
He was reunited with His Father.

He came to earth in this new body so His disciples could believe, and so there was no doubt that His body had not been stolen or disposed of. It just was no longer in the tomb....dead.
He also showed Himself risen,
as he had last minute preparations and instructions to His disciples.

So we color bright Easter eggs to symbol new life,
we celebrate with Easter lilies as they look like angels' trumpets,
we go to church to hear the Good News again,
We cluster with our families for Easter special foods,
We dress in our fancy best....
Because this is the one HUMONGOUS celebration of the year!

and that's the rest of the story....

Blessing to all, and with a spirit of great joy,
I wish you a Blessed Easter.

A Vintage Easter

Good day!
a stamped card colored with glaze pens

Today I am in an Easter mood. Not the chicks and eggs and candy sort of Easter, but an Easter with the belief that Jesus Christ died for our sins on the cross, and was buried in a borrowed tomb, and that 3 days later he rose from that grave in a new body - resurrected. With His resurrection we are assured that He had conquered death, and could offer us eternal life with Him in heaven.

There is solemnity.
There is deep grief.
There is sorrow.
BUT there is also joy,
there is hope,
there is confidence.

'Restored'

"Whenever I lose my sight of the Cross,
Black clouds surround me and I feel almost lost,
Although on Calvary my soul was set free,
I forget that Jesus really did that for me.

Sometimes I wrap myself up in myself,
And try to live my life without my Lord's help,
And again those clouds appear and nothing goes right.
Life stops when I let Jesus out of my sight.

Don't you know what Jesus wants of you
Is everything you've got my friend,
For you to give it all to Him,
And that is where your true life begins.

And when I resolve to live day by day,
I communicate with God and He leads the way.
The skies are blue and Jeus smiles down on me,
As I walk reminded of the price He paid for me."

"For God so loved the world that He didn't send a committee."
- church bulletin humor

c.1905

"Peace on the outside comes from
Knowing God within."

I know these say Christmas Bells, but I like Easter Bells!!

Don't forget, you can print these wonderful antique song sheet covers, and cut out.
Take your Mod Podge glue and a wood plaque (available at all craft/hobby stores)
and decoupage the cover onto it.
What a beautiful and unique wall hanging!
After decoupaging, you can add some silk flowers to a corner or two for added beauty.

These vintage prints also lend themselves very naturally to collage/altered art.
Take a coffee table, or end table. A chest, or?
Decoupage on a group, overlapping the edges. Add some vintage lace in while you are decoupaging. This produces a stunning, gorgeous piece of art furniture that is functional.
Be sure to use the clear acrylic spray to finish it, after all is very dry.
This will prevent the tackiness from the Mod Podge.
I like to use Krylon products, they always produce good results.

 c.1890

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son
so that anyone who believes in Him will not die, but receive eternal life."

from the Gospel of John, chapter 3 verse 16

but we cannot love without giving."

"Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection,
not in books alone, but in every leaf of springtime."

I do hope you enjoyed this little stroll through
my vintage Easter, my present Easter, and my future Easter.
