FREEDOM and Memorial Day in the USA and others

Hello!
American flag emblem

I had planned on sharing some super crafts with flowers, and especially pansies.
Kinda' having a punky day.
I knew I couldn't really do it justice like I want to.
So then I remembered
DUH!
This is Memorial Day weekend!
In the USA it is actually celebrated on Monday, May 30th.

I know that each and every country has some special celebration
for a particular war that was won,
or an event that helped make that nation what it is today.
The Boer wars

While today's focus will be on the United States of America,
I look forward to celebrating other nations' significant holidays.
Do you have a special one that you'd like me to blog on?
Just drop me a note:

" Mothers all want their sons to grow up to be a President but they don't want them to become politicians in the process."
John F. Kennedy, 34th President

- Jimmy Carter, 39th President

"Surely the hero
whose name is splashed in headlines
for some singular spectacular deed of valor
is no more a patriot
than the unkown, steadfast citizen
who year after year quietly and unselfishly benefits his nation."
- Albert Carr

A beautiful spring day

Hello!
Today is a beautiful spring day in the Rockies. Yesterday we had quite a lot of rain, but today the sun is shining. The sun makes all the newly watered flowers and plants look so fresh.

I can hardly wait for this year!

Barbie!

Here are some pretty spring paper dolls:

tip: Why not get out some old magazines, and make more clothes for her?
Remember, you can use cereal boxes as a backing for her.
Just cut out the doll, then glue to a thin cardboard (like cereal boxes).
Cut out, and you have a nice sturdy doll to dress.
Cut out a strip of the box to make a stand.

Thank you again to OrigamiBears for her fantastic sharing!

Here is a favorite quote of mine,
from a DressBarn ad, c.2007:

"Let yourself do something for others today.
Let yourself laugh.
Let yourself make funny faces.
Let yourself eat too much chocolate.
Let yourself meet someone smarter than you.
Let yourself be."
This is one of my favorite rubber stamped cards from my friend, Shelly.
Check out her blog, listed on the right.
The stamp used is from Peddler's Pack.

"Let there be no purpose in friendship
save the deepening of spirit."
- Kahlil Gibran

I hope you have enjoyed my little celebration of spring today.

Robins Nesting

Good day to you!

I was working on a jigsaw puzzle this morning in my dining room, and was hearing this scritch scratch noise.

scritch, scratch.

scritch, scratch.

I looked out the window, but saw nothing. I opened the door and saw nothing. I opened the glass screen door, and...

There were a pair of robins trying to build a nest on the door handle of our front glass door!

They had just started, so I didn't feel guilty about picking off the strands of grass and wet leaves; letting them flutter to the ground.

scritch, scratch.
uh oh.
I opened the front door, and as my Great Dane is always interested whenever a door opens, he came to stand and look outside through the glass door. I figured this would discourage any more thought of nest building on our door handle.

It has. But oh....I would have enjoyed watching the robins build their nest so!

I would rather have birds than airplanes.”

You could also use this as a beading design :0)

Here is a basket of eggs that you can use any color to decorate them:

You will give joy to the world.

The woods would be a very silent place if no birds sang
except those who sang best."
- Bernard Meltzer

Searching the internet, I came across this wonderful budget decorating idea:
I am sorry, I didn't write down who wrote the blog.
If you know, please tell me so I can give due credit.

She found an abandoned robin's nest on the ground, well after nesting season was over. After picking it up, she placed it on top of some vertical blinds she has in her family room. She said it has been there for several years now!
I also like how she has hung a hummingbird decoration close to it.

available at hollyandivychristmasshop.com for $18.50. She is 9" tall.

"I think people who don't believe in God are crazy.
How can you say there is no God when you hear the birds
singing these beautiful songs you didn't make?" - Little Richard
by Chinese artist, Mr. Ou Yang

On that (bird) note, I will close for today.
sending you many drops of laughter,

Cherry blossoms for Spring

Hello!
The weekend was so blustery with wind - ick. However the wind blew in some wonderful sunshine today! My daffodils are loving it!

I also have some small purple flowers that are coming up around my daffodils. I know I must have planted them, but I don't remember what kind they are!

“More grows in the garden than gardener sows.”
- Spanish proverb

My tulips leaves are still growing, but no sign of a bud yet. Our weeping cherry tree is beautiful with tiny white/pink flowers all along the flowing branches.

Let's enjoy some cherry blossoms today!

Here is a lovely Japanese Dolls of the World Barbie, with a traditional costume:

Feel like coloring a bit? I know I'm not the only 'adult' out there who likes to color!

If you have kids, sit them down after school today,
drag out a big box of crayons,

and have a fun Mom with Kids time!

(Don't you get so tired of the pick-up-the-kids-take-them-to......?)
Slow down!
My husband found a great coloring page site for me last night!
The cherry blossom tree is from it.
I also found the same site on a http://www.squiddo.com/ site.

Here is a lovely website that has the prettiest cherry blossom items for sale:
Look in the Asian Wedding section. Here is a small sample -

“Break open a cherry tree and there are no flowers,
But the spring breeze brings forth myriad blossoms.”
-Ikkyu Sojun

Well, I think that's it for today!
I do have more cherry blossom poems, quotes, coloring pages and pix for a later time. Isn't this fun?

I checked out a new comment (5/2012)
and it looks like a photo album from someone.
Check it out for many many cherry blossom pages,
mostly white blossoms.
